George Tenreiro focuses on immigration matters, as well as business and commercial litigation.  Mr. Tenreiro’s immigration experience includes successfully representing corporate clients and their employees in all forms and aspects of temporary employment-based visas.  This includes applications for H-1B, L-1, E-3 (Australian Nationals), B-2 (Temporary Business Visa), TN NAFTA (Canadian and Mexican Nationals), and E-1/E-2 (Investor) visas.  His practice also includes representing corporate clients and their employees to obtain any one of five types of EB visas that allow the beneficiary employee to obtain lawful permanent resident status, which often includes added steps involving the U.S. Department of Labor.

Mr. Tenreiro also successfully defends individuals in immigration court proceedings.  He also represents individuals in obtaining all types of family-based visas (for example, marriage petitions), together with Form N-400 Applications for Naturalization.  Additionally, Mr. Tenreiro has successfully represented LGBTQI and other applicants obtain special immigration status by asylum, allowing the individual to flee persecution and remain in the United States with work authorization, federal/state benefits, and a path to citizenship. 

His broad immigration practice has allowed him to successfully represent diverse corporate and individual clients from many countries, including, Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Cameroon, Canada, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Egypt, El Salvador, Germany, Ghana, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Jamaica, Jordan, Kenya, Korea, Lebanon, Mexico, Moldova, Netherlands, Nigeria, Peru, Philippines, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, St. Lucia, Senegal, Switzerland, Syria, Taiwan, Tunisia, Turkey, Uganda, Ukraine, Venezuela, United Kingdom, and Zambia. 

Mr. Tenreiro also represents businesses in a broad range of complex litigation matters in state and federal courts in New Jersey and New York.

In re International Conveyor Company: Mr. Tenreiro has worked with an international conveyor company with over 20 worldwide subsidiaries to obtain many employment-based visas, including L1-A, L1-B, B-1, and TN visas.

In re Australian Online Wagering Company: Mr. Tenreiro has worked with an Australian online wagering company to obtain different types of employment-based visas, including E-3, B-1, and “B-1 In Lieu of H-1B” visas.

In re National Companies in Diverse Fields: Mr. Tenreiro has successfully represented national companies in diverse industries obtain H-1B visas.

In re Detained Immigrant in Immigration Court Proceedings: Mr. Tenreiro obtained the immediate release of a lawful permanent resident who had been detained for more than three months.  Mr. Tenreiro successfully argued on novel grounds that the detention was legally improper.

In re Waiver of 2-Year Residency Requirement on J-1 Visa: Similar to assisting others in complex immigration matters, Mr. Tenreiro successfully represented an individual on a J-1 visa, obtain a waiver of the 2-year residency requirement on persecution grounds.  This involved, among other things, filing a well-supported application with corroborating materials to the U.S. Department of State’s Waiver Review Division.

In re National Investment Firm: Mr. Tenreiro represented an investment firm in negotiating favorable settlement results with two well-known rating agencies.

In re National Wireless Infrastructure Company: Mr. Tenreiro defended one of the nation’s largest independent owners of shared wireless infrastructure in a lease dispute.  The action was successfully dismissed on a dispositive motion.

In re International Financial Institution: Mr. Tenreiro defended an international financial institution in a retail banking dispute in the New York Supreme Court.  The action was dismissed on a dispositive motion.

In re International Energy Company: Mr. Tenreiro represented an international energy company in a complex environmental suit brought by the State of New Jersey, involving over 300 parties.

In re Regional Fuel Oil Cleanup Service Provider: Mr. Tenreiro defended a regional fuel oil cleanup service provider in environmental claims on several occasions in both New Jersey and New York.  Many of the actions were resolved through favorable settlement negotiations or voluntary dismissals.
