FLORHAM PARK, NJ, June 7, 2021 -- Saiber LLC is pleased to announce the addition of Melanie laCour as an Associate in the Firm’s Gaming Law Practice.
Melanie has over 10 years’ legal experience, including 5 years of experience within the gaming industry, serving in both the public and private sectors. Melanie’s experience includes serving as an attorney with the New York State Gaming Commission, the General Counsel of a non-profit pari-mutuel wagering and racing industry organization, and as a prosecutor in North Dakota.
“We are excited to welcome Melanie laCour to our growing team,” said Jeremy Kleiman, Chair of Saiber’s Gaming Law practice. “Melanie’s experience as a regulator within the gaming industry and as a General Counsel of a non-profit in the racing industry, make her exceptionally qualified to advise our clients on the regulatory challenges facing the gaming industry today."
Prior to joining Saiber, Melanie served as an Assistant Counsel with the New York State Gaming Commission. In that capacity, Melanie represented the Commission at administrative proceedings in a prosecutorial role, conducting hearings regarding violations of gaming statutes and regulations. In addition, she acted as a legal advisor to all Commission divisions, offering detailed regulatory interpretation and guidance, drafted and revised regulatory language, and assisted in preparing pleadings for lawsuits filed against the Commission.
Before joining the New York State Gaming Commission, Melanie served as the General Counsel of CHRIMS Inc., a non-profit organization focused on providing data processing, accounting and technology solutions to the pari-mutuel gaming industry. There, Melanie negotiated vendor agreements, ensured regulatory compliance, and oversaw day-to-day legal matters and business development strategies.
In addition to her roles within the gaming industry, Melanie served as a prosecutor in Bismarck, North Dakota. She also served as a Staff Attorney for the 6th Judicial Circuit of Florida, and clerked for the Hon. Stockton B. Wood in the 19th Judicial Circuit of Kentucky.
Melanie received her B.A. from the University of Kentucky in 2006 and her J.D. from the University of Kentucky College Law in 2009. In 2013, Melanie earned her M.S. in Animal Sciences at the University of Arizona’s Race Track Industry Program.
